Habitat:  Perennial tree

Useful Parts:  Gum, heartwood, flowers, leaves

Common Uses:

1- The gum called Kino exudes from incisions in bark. It is astringent and useful in diarrhoea. Bruised leaves are applied on boils, sores and other skin diseases. Bark is used in uterine bleeding; it is boiled with milk and used as drink.

2- Heartwood is used in inflammation and diabetes. It pacifies vitiated kapha, pitta, leucoderma, haemorrhoids, diarrhoea, arthritis cough and greying of hair. Also used in reducing cholesterol, leprosy, leucoderma, rectalgia, constipation, haemorrhages and even rheumatoid arthritis.

Indications  It is used externally in leucoderma, erysipelas, oedema, hair fall and skin disorders. It is used internally in worm infestations, diarrhoea, dysentery, bleeding disorders, gout, osteoarthritis, diabetes, and skin disorders.
